photos of 34g cadiff reef tank

here are some photos of my lil part of the ocean .had it for about 2 years ,made many mistakes and broke every rule of keeping a reef.but here are some images to enjoy....brief history on tank ;it is bare bottom.has like 70lbs of live rocks.1/13 hp chiller, korilia 2 on top,and a korilia evolution 1050 in the bottom to clean off the rocks, sounds like alot of flow but rocks diffuse it so plants are not swaying recklessly.got a maxijet 1200 on chiller, stock smimmer and stock return pump..tank gets cleaned once a week and a turkey baster is used frequently .water parameters are nitrates 0,phosphates 0,nitrite 0.ph 8.2,ammonia 0.calcium 400. thats all i do to keep tank running smoothly,,had an outbreak of apestia ,but peppermint shrimps took care of problem, yes they work..i almost lost tank because i was so caught up with work and wife having surgury and i had no time to care for it as much and i made a silly mistake let the salanity drop too low and lost my frogspawn,,,but im back on it...mistakes are made to become perfect..so enjoy pics, will try 2 add a video soon...oh and i wanted purple algea now i have wayyyyy too much than i asked for, this thing takes over the entire tank if i dont scrape them off.also the tan looking plant was one tree ,it split into 2..now its about to slpit again,,can anyone tell me what kind of coral is it.

Thanks I keep the candycanes closer to the light and there is no flow on them. They like it in that area. I had to clear around it beacuse it's tenticles would touch other corals. I only had four heads on branch and the rest filled in think 2 more branches and it would be complete. Try putting urs closer to the light source

Thankx carmie. I want to add few more corals but I'm out of space. Mushrooms took over tank. Might add few more zoos and watch them grow. My tall plant coral is about to split again. If it extends the branches all the way up it comes out the tank. I might have to get rid of it cuz it's outgrowing the tank. Can u help identify that coral. It's the tan one to the left it looks like a tree

That is definitely some sort of a leather coral. With the tall trunk it looks like a sinularia to me but it could be a colt. You can give it a haircut just using scissors or a razor blade. They always trade well at frag swaps.

Thanks ,it's a pink colt ,that thing is really aggressive killed most of my zoos. It's a nice coral but I try to keep around it clear. But when it's trying to split the branches rub on my shrooms and zoos. I don't know of any swaps around my area, and don't know too many people with reefs,so kinda sucks for me

That would be great if you could use credit from the colt for a clam.

I would recommend QTing anything you put in your tank no matter where it comes from. As soon as a retailer puts fish in their system ich is most likely present. Clams don't get ich but they can have other problems. Pyramid snails especially come to mind.

You just use scissors and cut the branches off at a fork. This is a demo on xenia http://www.talkingreef.com/forums/po...sode-29-a.html but the principal is the same.

Hey guys. I moved corals again kinda satisfied lol, remember i mention adding a clam. Finally got a blue maxima clam today.also i got a part time job working at petco in their fish department ,went to the store and in conversation about reefs with the manager i got the job,so today i purchased clam with my employee discount. Yay...so i got a toothbrush and gently scrubed away some of the debree off his shell and placed him in tank, its a baby about 1inch in size, few minutes later after i turnt on metal halides it opened up,,2minutes later it was like 4 hermits that covered the clam,,got scared for a minute and started getting them off,,3minutes later they were back.got mad and took emm all off again..csme back like 5 minutes later And they were back,,i looked closly and noticed they were eating the green algea that was stuck between the crevices ,whooo i was relieved,,i did a quick testnto see if clam was healthy. Cover the light and it quicky closed,so he is fine. No parasites visible. Great color ,will post some pics soon.after all a lil patients paid off

Glad that all was well. I believe that clams that small have to be taken out of the tank and fed.

From what i've heard any clam under 3 inches needs to be fed. the reason u need to take it out is the clam feeds slowly and the food needs to be dense in the water column for an extended period which would foul your tank.

I have a Colt and a Kenya Tree, and that looks just like my Kenya Tree, the Colt has smaller polyps then the Kenya Tree. I fragged my Kenya tree by knocking a piece of LR off onto it, so now I have two. My Colt was blowing around the tank, so I used a rubber-band to attach it to a piece of dead Acro (I got a gallon bucket of broken coral skeletons for free a while back, I was going to use them in a calcium reactor, but I never got the reactor...) and after it slipped the rubber-bands a few times, I cinched them a little too tight and now I have two Colt's too...
