Hey Chip! Good to see you! How goes the store?
I'll pass the suggestion on to Rob.
Hey guys! Long time, no post... opening a fish store keeps me way busier than I had expected! I miss the podcast, has it stopped? If there are new podcasts in the future, I'd love to hear one on chalice corals. I'd even chip in, for what help I could be. These corals are in great demand in my neck of the woods, and rather out of the blue. When the store opened just three years ago, there was very little interest in these. I'm not sure what generates a buzz in coral types, but these went from off the radar to one of the most sought-after corals I get in. Funny how that works. Anyway, hope everyone is well and their tanks are doing great.

Hey Chip, happy for you that the store has survived this economic catastrophe we’re in. That says a lot about your management abilities. Congrats!
Chalices are very popular right now for several reasons. They are easy to grow, come in a rainbow of colors so make great additions to our reef tanks. Under the right lighting they can change color to some beautiful hues.
Here’s a great example...
This came in brown with only a hint of yellow in the eyes. Two weeks under my T5 combo of lights and this is what has emerged. Love corals like that.

The store is hanging on, but not due to aquatics. I had a small isle of dog & cat supplies/food and stuff for small animals. That has now taken over 1/2 the floor space. The store is called Blue Ridge Reef and Pet, but should be renamed! I have 135 set up aquariums, but will be draining some in the near future. I think I can sell the same volume of fish in about half that many tanks. It's a shame, but there's no point in maintaining that many aquariums with sales this sluggish. Hopefully, I will be filling some back up in the coming years!
Yeah, chalices are an interesting bunch. They really do well in nutrient rich water with average lighting, so can thrive in a lot of hobbyist tanks where other stonies struggle. I have better luck with frags than large pieces, I tend to think the big ones don't ship well. I have a display 125 that I am considering making just a chalice/acan/brain tank. I'll add photos as that project gets underway.
Great to check in with you guys!
