What is this black worm in my tank???

I found this similar looking worm in my tank (BC29). The fish store said it is a bobbit worm, but I have looked those up and can't see any resemblance. Does anyone know??? I would love any suggestions people have. It moves very slow while coming out of the hole in a piece of live rock but shoots back in with any outside movement. It hasn't been attracted to my worm trap either. We used Krill.

We found our Goby dead and chewed up, and we are wondering if this might be the culprit. But it seems to scavenge the bottom of the tank and eat the left overs of the anenome feeding.

This is a link to the YouTube Video we found that looks like it.

Thanks to anyone that knows anything!

Hey Karyn, welcome to TR. Can’t say I’ve ever seen that worm before. In getting Live Rock (LR) from around the world I’m sure there are hundreds of critters we are not used to seeing. Keep an eye on him and keep us informed.

    Thanks

Thanks for the post Dick! I really appreciate it.

Coincidentally, last night when we were trying to observe ouworm resident, we found a real bobbit worm living in the same rock about 2 inches behind the black one. Our LR came from FIGI. while my husband was putting the worm trap in, the bobbit worm darted out and snapped at the tube. Scarey little thing.

Does anyone know how common Bobbit worms are and a good way to catch them?

    THank you to all.

You’re welcome, Karyn. I Googled Bobbit Worm this am and found the following.

There’s a great article with the picture. Did you know where the Bobbit Worm got it’s name? Interesting story. Click this link - http://www.uwphotographyguide.com/bobbit-worm and read the report.

Have you caught either worm yet? You might want to get the Bobbit out of there because they are efficient predators of fish and other vulnerable critters like shrimp.

Thank you Karyn, I appreciate the feed back. Glad the article was of help to you. The key to it being helpful in the future is to remember the rules as you stand in front of the LFS’s tanks looking to buy a fish, coral or whatever. Look past the beauty and look for signs of stress or disease. Good luck. Contact me anytime if you need help.

Hi Karyn and welcome to TR. I agree the black worm looks like a peanut worm to me. I have one in my NC24 that lives in a hole in the rock like that.

Coral RX will get rid of your bobbitt worm, a dip in it will do but will also kill your peanut worm as well. My bobbitt worm came in on a piece of coral, it is no more. Was cool to watch while the piece was in qt though
