Nice tang! Your zoas should fill back in as long a no one else is nibbling on them. If you feed fish mush or Cyclopeeze I'd squirt some over the colonies when you feed just in case they will take it and use it for rebuilding.

It was definately the rabbit fish nibbling on them i was watching him do it just wish it wasn't so hard to get them out of the tank once there in there. Had to tear half the tank apart to get him out. The pet store gave me full credit on the rabbit fish and they gave me the tang at the same price i payed for the rabbit so it all worked out. Get the liquid Cyclopeeze stuff i guess huh? COuldn't find fish mush where do you get that. Any recommendations on the cyclopeeze stuff. Do you think he is to big for the tank i have him in now? I don't plan on keeping him in there planning on moving him into the 90 when i get it set up.

I think I read you have a 55g set up??? If this is correct, the tang needs a bigger tank. All tangs a long distance swimmers and they need more room. The Naso will become boxed it and may start swimming circles around the tank. They also like high flow.
    Best of luck.

I must agree with and re-emphasize saltaddict’s response. Talking Reef is a forum put in place to teach beginners and experts alike the rights and wrongs of their habits within the hobby. It doesn’t matter how long anyone has been in the hobby, if we see something posted that’s wrong we have an obligation to correct it so the habit or practice is changed and not passed on to other newbies or experts. This is all done to advance the proper care of our home reefs. Even if it’s someone with extensive experience such as me. When I post something questionable, someone will rightfully take me to task. It’s all about disseminating correct practices for best results.

    With that being said...

I hate to be the barer of criticism but you failed to do basic research on the Naso, too. In one of my favorite reference books, “Reef Aquarium Fishes” by Scott Michael, (one of the BEST pocket references for around $20) the Naso Tang gets to a whopping 18” and requires a minimum tank of 180 gallons. A far cry from your 55 gal.

It is extremely important to the future of our hobby that we all strive to become “Responsible Reefers” by making a commitment to researching every purchase BEFORE making a decision. The future of our hobby hangs in the balance, in case ANYONE WONDERS here is just one attack currently under way. Everyone Please read this!

If we as reef keepers do not clean up our act by acting responsibly in our reef keeping hobby, guys like him and others gain traction into shutting us down. THINK, EVERY TIME YOU ARE ABOUT TO MAKE AN IMPULSIVE PURCHASE!!!

Leave it at the LFS, go home, do your research, critically look at your current set up and then ask yourself, ”Is my system really the best it could be for this critter? Or am I being irresponsible???

Glad your friend is housing him in more appropriate home.

I must add, although you are housing him in a 180g if you over populate the tank with other critters then it will not be large enough and he will become stressed.

We all love the fish we see in the LFS and want one of each and even rationalize that the little fish won't take up much room. In reality, for every fish you add you are taking away from the NASO. I am not saying he should be the only fish in the tank but you need to give real consideration to under populating in order to provide a less stressful environment.

well he is the only fish in that tank other than the two maroon clowns it is loaded with corals. wish i had a picture it is impressive the only reason he is selling it is because he is moving, and doesn't want the hassle of moving the water and everything else in it. 300 lbs of sand alone not sure how much rock 200+. Oh there are a couple cleaner shrimp to and a bunch of snails and hermits

You will have to give consideration to how you will move the tank. The sand and rocks should be kept submerged in water to minimize die off. If it has a DSB disturbing it can release nasty stuff. Also. you will have to be prepared with a "Plan B" for the critters if it recycles.

Watch out for the maroon clowns, mine bites hard enough to draw blood.
