    New green tree

A couple months ago my palau green tree was all but killed by a crab. The stump that was left recovered and is growing good. But while I was looking around tonight I saw a bright green spec coming out from the base of a rock. I'm pretty sure it's a piece of the old tree so I sucked it out with my modified turkey baster and superglued it to a little rock. It' only about 1/4" long and was attached to a few grains of sand. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.
    Here is a pic

I actually thought of you while I was gluing it on. I know you want one. Since I got new lights I think it got shocked or something. It has become shorter and fatter. Maybe it just isn't reaching for light like it used to. If the little one takes off maybe I can get one out to you more sooner than later. I'll keep you posted.

I just took these pics a minute ago. Since the new light addition things have gone crazy. Pulsing xenia shriveled up,thought it was going to die but it's coming around now. My original xenia has tripled in size. Acan and shrooms are puffed up bigger than ever. My blue zoas are losing thier blue...they are mostly a solid maroon color. The orange zoas are getting a dark purple ring in them. All the trees shrunk but have better polyp extension than I've ever seen. I'll get some other pics later so you can see how much of a difference there is. But anyways here is the tree.

Its been a couple weeks so I figured I'd throw in a couple new pics. Starting to see some good growth. The little frag came off the rock and have no idea where it is. Hope it shows up again in the future.

I got a new camera and haven't figured out all the settings but here is an updated pic of the original tree. Still no sign of the little frag.

It's been pretty quiet around here lately and 2 months since the last update on this tree so I figured I'd put in some new pics. Never found the little frag. But the original is growing slowly but surely.

Awesome recovery job SaltyDawg! So, I have a question. How? I recently got a green and pink tree (yep, two totally different frags.) I got them at a frag auction a couple of weeks ago. My Acros, Acan, Candy Canes, Cyphastrea, Caps, Mushrooms, Zoas, Frogspawn and Torch are doing Awesome! ...my Nephthea's and Elegance aren't doing so hot. My Ele is actually doing better some days and not so much others, and my house temp, and therefor the tank temp, has been very bouncy for a couple of weeks too... so that's probly the problem with the Ele. What about the Nephtheas?
about 85 ga total water volume:
    Spec Grav: 1.026
    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrites: 0
    Nitrates: 10
    Phosphates: 0.03
    Calcium: 400
    Alk: 12 dkh
    Mag: 1500
(Yeah, I haven't dosed anything with Mag in it for many many moons, but it goes from 1450 after a water change to 1750 in a week, and I even added mangroves to eat up some mag... still keeps rising.)
I also have two rio 1700's returning the water to the tank, but they are slightly restricted by the chiller and a phosphate reactor, I also have 2 Koralia 750's. I'm getting a nano 425 to stick inside my rock work this weekend. Does yours like a lot of flow or a little? What o you suggest to make these guys happy?

My green tree has been all over the tank. When I had it up close to the light it would stay short and stubby and got little polyp extension. Same result when it's in a high flow spot. For the last couple months it's been down on the sand in a low flow area and it streches out nicely. It's attached to a golf ball sized rock so it's pretty mobile. When I moved it around I left it for a few weeks to see if it would come around and it never looked happy. It is also under an overhanging rock. Not completely under but not in direct light either and in the last couple months it has doubled in size. This guy got chewed up about 8 months ago and the recovery has been really slow but now its taking off so I'm going to leave it where it is. It is definately a lot more sensitive than my other trees. They grow like weeds and drop buds all over the place. I bet I flush 5 or 6 frags every week. I just took a quick count and can see 15 of them in there....starting to not like them anymore. I also want to add that I was having algae and cyano troubles for a while and decided to cut the light way back. They were on for like 10 hours a day and back around Christmas I cut it back to 6 hours over a few weeks. And with all the syphoning, scraping and water changes, the tank is almost spotless and all the corals look happier than ever.
I'm not going to say "you have to put your tree here,do this,do that", everyones circumstances are different. You've seen where it isn't happy. My advise would be to give it a couple weeks after you move it and it will let you know when it's happy.

Well last night I cut a piece off. I took a before pic to show where I cut it. And took a couple pics tonight to show just how PO'd this thing is..lol. I'm not worried about it though, I've seen how much abuse this tree can take. My plans are to cut a frag every month or so till I get 5 or 6 of them. Want to yank out those orange PITA trees and relocate them to the septic tank. The frag i cut last night will be off to it's new home in a couple weeks if all goes well but the rest I'm going to keep. I think the nano would look pretty cool with a handfull of green trees...especially with just the actinics on. But anyways...here is the before pic.

    And the unhappy after pics

Looks great! But what you did is not even close to what that crab did to it.

Well a week after cutting him up, it's finally got some polyps showing. I was a little worried about the frag but it seems to be coming around. Just taking a little longer that I hoped. I dont dare to untie it from the rock just yet. It's starting to attach but fear the current could pull it off so I'll give it a few more days. Here is pics from this morning.

Carmie, If you cut me in half and glued me to a rock and placed me in a glass box full of water, I would probly be a little on the angry side too! ;D

LOL, heck, if you even cut a little bit of me off, like a finger or toe, I'd be pretty unhappy!
