    crushed coral substrate

ok, soI got a FREE 100 gl pre-drilled tank w/ nice wood stand, canopy, skimmer, uv sterilizer, pump, etc. Also, about 3 x 5 gal buckets of crushed coral substrate. I HATE to not use it, but I know it can be a nitrate factory. What are your thoughts? Can I ise about 1 1/2 inches of it and put about 3 inches of ag on top of it? There will be a million more questions as I get going, will be tearing down the 55 gl.

    Wow, how exciting!

I think if you mix the CC with aragonite it will stratify and the sand will all go to the bottom and the CC will be the layer on top.

I agree, I had better just not use it!!! Help Dick... need some aragonite!!! I really dont want to waste MY aragonite in the 55, when things get going, can I add a few cups every few days to seed and cycle? Whats my best plan?

Your LR will seed the sand with all the bacteria you need and many micro critters. Adding a couple of cups of sand from the 55 and/or a friend's tank will add a variety pods, worms and other detrivores.

I think the only place to get it right now is Marco Rocks - Marco Rocks Aragonite Sand

I’m looking for a source. What I have left I need. Sorry. But marco’s price is reasonable.

We should talk about what depth you are planning in the DT. I’m no longer recommending a DSB in the DT IF you can put one in the sump/refugium. Their great for a few years but will eventually cause trouble. If it’s in the S/R it can be dealt with much easier than if in the DT.
