hmm that might work what should i use to scrape?
A lot of people make one chamber of their sump into a fuge by scraping the black plastic off of the outside and then using a small light. You can also buy HOB refugiums or make them using the box from a HOB filter.

I haven't done it but I would suspect a razor blade scraper would work.

i have another update. i just tested my water and phosphates are zero and nitrates are zero the algae is not growing back even close to as fast and my xenia is spreading and opening very nicely and my chalice that was starting to melt is back to being healthy im in the process of getting pictures up
umm i forgot how again can someone remind me i know it had something to do with photobucket
cool thanks salty!
this is my mystery fishy this is my prized frogspawn this was hard to get it is my ricordea here is my chalice here is my fire fish this is that anemone and this is my full tank shot before i moved everything around
oops left it out
more pictures of my super special awesome xenia and my re-modeled tank coming soon
Looks good. Look forward to seeing new pics. But I gotta ask (and please dont take this personally), why dont you get in there and tackle the algae and do water changes yourself? In the time it took to take, upload and post pics, you could have ripped half that hair algae out of there. More than likely the HA is using up the nutrients you are testing for thus creating a false reading on the test kit. You got to find whats feeding it and fix it. You're only going to get out of it what you put into it and I want to see another rockin' nano..lol
well this pic is actually before a tore at a whole bunch and did a water change its not so recent also i have 4 mangroves and a phosphate remover and also removed the bioballs and put the heater in the back plus i messed with the rocks so its real good now i promise i will have more pics soon
Thanks! I think your mystery fish may be a spotted hawkfish.

The Spotted Hawkfish from the Indo-Pacific region has a lot of attitude and it very entertaining to watch. They do not get along with other Hawkfish. Smaller fish and ornamental shrimp might end up a tasty snack so offer opportunistic meaty meals to satisfy its appetite and reduce its desire to hunt. Its diet includes meaty foods like feeder shrimp, krill, squid, and other meats.

thanks for the info guys i was wondering what he was he and jeff (the now named fire fish) get along real well when i went in to clean today they huddled together at there hiding spot they get along fine with my porcelain crab (steve) and the hawk fish does not show signs of aggression in fact he is actually scared of steve also the guy at barrier reef said h is not going to get any bigger so ill have to keep an eye out for that and i somehow managed to get a shot of my xenia and will be posting it by tonight.
here are 2 pics of my xenia there bad but its the best i could do
SaltyDawg (03-18-2011)
they look a bit like green star polyps but there are distinct differences one is that the polyps are an odd minty neon green and stars are not and the base for the xenia is blue and they have little hair like things on the tentacle part and they open and close whenever they feel like it
They are pretty!

yea i have 2 xenia rocks but one has less than the other also i started dosing with iodide again so i think that helped them to come out more they r pretty neat creatures
looking good e. those polyps look like blue sympodium to me though not xenia.
yea the look exactly like it. i was looking at my second rock and i actually found a normal blue xenia polyp just hanging out on the rock
i recently had a problem. my fish were not eating. so i gave them some pellet food (which the serpent star ate) and the remembered i had some frozen shrimp cubes, so i melted it and put it in a syringe and target fed my ricordia, anemone, frogspawn and chalice and zoas but they did not eat. and the leftover shrimp got eaten by my fish so problem solved but i might get a nitrate spike i also went in as salty suggested and pulled out as much algae as i could.
You should do a water change too. In my nano I prefer to do 5% water changes twice a week. I think it keeps the tank more stable.

i got another tank cleaning and bob is going to help me create a refugeum i also might be getting a viper but its not certain yet also bob did a 70% water change removed the 2 false bottoms (not easy) and he siphoned out the bottom of the back chambers (there is alotta gunk back there) and i redid my rock work again and thats all for now.
Yup, mixed bag so far yeah!
Look forward to your updates, as nano's are nice if you can pull it off successfully.
