I noticed today on Facebook that Rhonda, Saltaddict, is walking to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes. I went to her page http://walk.jdrf.org/index.cfm?fusea...irmid=87711970 to sponsored her and I am challenging you to all do the same. Several members of the TR family sponsored me when I was doing Relay for Life and I really hope you sponsor Rhonda too.

Carmie,
I had no idea you had posted this on TR until this morning. Thank you very much for being a truly wonderful person and a great friend.
My family and I are walking on Sept. 25th to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in the hope that their research will help our daughter as well as the countless others suffering with diabetes.
In addition to research, JDRF shows up at the hospital within 24 hrs of a child being admitted and diagnosed with diabetes to bring the child a bear that has patches and band aids in all the places that would test blood glucose levels and receive insulin injections and they provide on going support and training to families dealing with such a diagnosis. Rufus the diabetic bear became my daughter's constant companion.
Julia's journey began in mid November 2008, she was 5.5 years old. Julia was a child who never sat still not ever quit talking and would jump, talk, eat and drink all at the same time. We began seeing changes in Julia such as being tired a lot, eating non-stop through out the day and in the following weeks she began wetting the bed which is something she had never done. On December 2, 2008 the doctor was able to see her and when I insisted they do a full blood panel along with diabetes markers his response was, "She does not act like a child who is diabetic". At 4pm I received a call from the doctor telling me I was indeed right and I needed to get her to the hospital immediately as her blood glucose was 945 and the lab had re-run the test six times as they could not comprehend such a high number from a child who was walking, talking and acting somewhat normal.
Julia was admitted immediately to Children's Medical Center of Dallas in full blown Diabetic Ketoacidosis and would not have survived without their expert knowledge and fast intervention.
After a four day stint in the hospital she came home on four insulin injections a day, countless finger pokes and a strict eating regimen that counts carbs to adjust insulin to match. We saw an immediate difference in our little girl.
Julia is now 7 years old and continues to grow and thrive but not without the aid of the insulin injections she receives daily. She went from my baby who would scream at the idea of a needle to one who now will readily give you a finger for a blood check, sometimes as much as 12 times per day as well as take her injections without so much as a yelp.
She does ask, "Why do I have to have diabetes"? "Why won't it go away"? "Why can't I be normal"?
She now wears a Continuous Glucose Monitor which is a transmitter that is attached to her abdomen with an internal probe that checks her glucose levels every five minutes and transmits them to a receiver that she has in her possession at all times. This does not eliminate all finger pokes but it aids us and her school in knowing that her blood glucose is dropping deadly low.
JDRF continues to push forward and make significant gains in their research to make kiddos like her have a little better way of life and reduce the complications as much as possible. I thank you for taking the time to read this.
Julia will be leading the three mile walk for her team on the 25th of September with her family and friends walking beside her every step of the way.

I wanted to thank each of you again for supporting Team Julia in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk for a Cure. We completed out 3.5 miles this morning in the rain and loved every minuted of it.
For every $1 that JDRF donates to diabetes research Congress donates $3. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
If you haven't donated to Team Julia please take this opportunity to give at least a little. If everyone at TR made a $5 donation it would be great!
