    Red Slime

    What is the best way to get rid of red slime algae??????

    should I take my fish and hermits out of there , I only have a clown goby and 3 hermits so it would not be a big deal to do so.....

    thanks

    There are antibiotic based treatments available at most LFSs, such as ChemiClean that will remove it, but you really want to get to the root cause of why it's there in the first place, or it will likely come back. How are your water parameters? Particularly nitrate and phosphate. How is your flow? Are the affected areas getting plenty? Cyano is photosynthetic, so if you don't have any coral to worry about, you can turn your lights off for a few days.

    I have not tested the parameters today, I will when I get home

    I know on tuesday before I put in the clown goby they were

    nitrites= 0
    nitrates=0
    ph= was in range i do not remeber the #
    salinity was 1.025
    Ca = 400
    Phos= do not remeber but it was in range

    do I need to take my fish out or just treat the tank, it is a FOWLER tank no corals in this one....

    it could be that I just started feeding the tank , I may have over fed and the lights got left on for 36 hours when I was not home ( note to self get that timer tonight on the way home)

    the area is getting pretty good flow......I could maybe use another power head.....

    it actually has pretty crappy compact florecents on it that I need to upgrade..
    and I have a fluval canister filter which I clean weekly until I get the sump up and running .....the sump is sitting in the garage guess I need to do some work

    Thanks

    There's no need to remove the fish to use ChemiClean and the like.

    Just wanted to say thanks to Phurst for answering , this is the fist time I had to deal with red slime and at this point I shut the lights of for 3 days now and have not fed the tank, I moved my one fish to my 65gal for now and the red slime seems to be dying off, I also got everything ready to set up the sump and get rid of that canister filter.....

    so big thanks
