    building a stand

allrighty folks, im building a stand. im looking at 3 foot tall, 15 inches wide, 23 inches deep, and it needs to support 200 pounds. im thinking of building it with 1x4s put in a v pattern down each corner to support the weight. it will have one shelf in it, and a door on the front. i want to put my electrical inside it to reduce unsightly clutter. it will be wrapped in plywood or something similar and painted black. my biggest concern is weight, how light can i make this without it weighing as much as my car. i will be using wood glue and screws so i dont believe joints will be an issue.

I think most people use 2x4's but I am not at all good with this kind of stuff.

i know that they do, but its only got to hold up 197.4 pounds. i was wondering if i made the corners in an overlapped v pattern (for a visual lay a board down then stand one up on the edge of it) if i could do it with 1 x 4's. i want to use those because i have about 300 board feet of it in the basement.

I think you will be fine using 1 x 4s in an L shape for the legs. Screwing and glueing will add rigidity. If it collapses with the weight, I didn’t say the preceding.

Seriously, go for it. Take pics along the way and report back here.
