Remembering Our Troops Today

I am remembering today all those who serve in our armed forces. My dad served in the Army during the Korean War, sister is in the Air National Guard and has pulled a tour in Iraq and I am proud of their service to our country. I especially send out my heartfelt thanks and sympathy to the families of those who have paid the ultimate price.

(Walrus, I am remembering your cousin especially today.)

+1 Carmie. Our local parade was awesome. My 5 year old doesn't really get it but I tried to explain what it's about. A WW2 vet walked over to us and said "thanks for coming out" and she said "thanks for fighting for us". He looked like he was going to cry...a powerful moment I'll never forget

Yes. Where I grew up it is also called Decoration Day because the tradition is to lay flowers on the graves of the veterans. There is a parade with a lot of pomp and ceremony that either ends at a cemetery or war monument. After the speeches the ceremony is concluded by a 21 gun salute and Taps.

Yeah must be universial , thats what australia day is for us.

I think it is too. I remember the jets flying over the Australian Open this year. My dad was active in his American Legion Post (organization for veterans) and Memorial Day was a big deal for us.

yeah thats right, you wished me happy Oz day because of the tennis.

we have a pre dawn service. I'm yet to visit a service though.

A) its early, B) Its kinda early, C) its cold D) im not one for crowds, & E), did i mention its early??

Shrine of remembrance, like moths to a flame - no wonder though, thousands of people freezing their tits off. lol
