Ive laid heavy on the white balance, so the colors really arent accurate. Between the halide and the LEDs, the shimmer is crazy. Most of my pics turn out to be a blue blob.
Hello everyone,
i'd like to show you all my mixed reef. This ihas been a work in progress for quite some time now. Most is diy, used and hand me down with the exception of the tank and a few peices i bought new. Im particuly proud of my stand i found on the side of the road and re-finished along with the custom granite counter top. I have a lot of pics of the build. The tank has only held water for about a month now, so im dealing with some algae issues at the moment. im still getting used to the new bare bottom. I will post more later as i have time. Thanks for looking.

Really nice looking setup. I love the trimless/braceless look.

Hmmm, I guess my question would be, has the tank gone through the “cycle” in less than a month? That is pretty heavily stocked for that short period of time. What are your water parameters?Originally Posted by ilovemyreef84

Thank you for the nice compliment.
Thank you. I have had the colony for almost a year now, I'm quite fond of it. I wish I had room for an anemone, but my clowns love hosting in the duncan.
Thank you. I have been looking for the ideal rimless setup for awhile now. I actually found the stand and re finished it, planning on putting my aquapod on it. Then I got the idea of a custom rimless tank that would fit the entire stand, but a custom rimless that size was over 400. Surfing the web one day I came across the eact dimensions I was looking for, for less then 200! Mr aqua makes a number of rimless nanos, very nice quality for the price.
I don't test for anything except cal, alk and mag, so I'm not sure if I had a cycle. Most of my rock is between 2-5yrs old, so there's plenty of beneficial bacteria. All my tanks prior to this were DSB's. I went with a BB this time, and for the first month I had a lot of detritus accumulate and a lot of shedding from the rocks. From what I've read, this is normal for new BB systems. I also decided to scrub my skimmer body and pump out after about a year of running it, and it has taken all month to break in. So I pulled pretty much no skim for the first month, so I'm sure that added to my algae issues. I also run 2 phosban reactors ( 1 with gfo and 1 with carbon) and a 25m sock. Things are definatley starting to clear up in the tank and my skimmer is pulling a lot of dark gunk. As far as params, I run close to NSW. 350-380cal, 1200mag, 8-10dkh, ph stays around 7.9, but I don't dose any buffers. I don't dose anything for that matter, but I do 25-50% WC's weekly.
Heres some shots of the build
heres a better look at the granite
It seems to be working for you but for the benefit of others reading your thread it is never a good idea to not monitor for a cycle. Any time you move rock you can have an ammonia spike and run the risk of wiping out your tank.

well, its not your first bbq, however it did seem alittle weird after those years in the hobby, youve skipped over the most important elements considering you just gutted half your filtration potential.
Good for you taking the plunge into BB, its not always easy, however its not for the lazy among us if you know what i mean. Why have you decided to go BB by the way?
The detritus your seeing happening now, was always happening. Its just 50times more noticeable on BB. so when do we see the rest, whats your turn over rate?

It's really looking nice. Keep the pictures coming!
