Great job on the plumbing video! can't wait to see that setup in action

little off topic, but somewhat related...have you ever used food coloring to see the flow in your tank? would food coloring be safe...say during a fresh water test run of everything, prior to adding saltwater and your inhabitants?

i have not use food coloring, but air bubbles work good.
use a turkey baster, and shoot air into either the venturi valve, or the water intake, and you will see exactly where the pump is flowing. but this wont work with notmal hard lined returns or CL systems.

it should be fine as long as you got a good bond.

    it depends on your needs.
spray bars are great for spreading water current over a larger area, but are not as powerful because the pressure is being dispersed over that wide area.

    Plumbing Video

I am new to TalkingReef and just wanted to say how much your plumbing video helped me. Before seeing it, I was scared to delve into such an unknown area. The only other knowledge I had about PVC pipe is that it is used is used in my lawn sprinklers. I will be setting up a reef tank very soon and am much more confident in doing the plumbing myself. Thanks so much and I look forward to the next episode.

    Rob,

I have a question about this podcast (not sure where to post it).

I have looked for the ball valve + quick disconnect piece that you show in your video, but Home Depot doesn't have it. Did you buy that someplace special?

    Thanks,

    ET

    Hi,

I did have the same problem...

I decided I would join a ball valve and quick disconnect/screw fit with a piece of pipe, measured to the exact length so it looks like one item.

However i managed to find the exact item in the end.

Hope this may help and sorry if im stating the obvious

Safety note: PVC Solvent and primer will stain clothing, skin, floors, etc. From pluming my house years ago, I must tell you. When solvent welding above...It REALLY hurts when you get it in your eye. Quite a "pain" when you don't have water in the house. Fortunatly it was a Michigan winter and we had snow outside.
