Alternative to using aqua lifter pump on an overflow

Does anyone know of an alternative to using a aqua lifter pump for an overflow? I am tried of having them fail. They just do not last at all. It seems in the last six months I have had to replace three of them and all three failers have lead to water spilling out on to my carpet and making my wife mad.

getting rid of the CPR-type overflow is the best way to eliminate the pump. get yourself a U-tube type.
