    aquatic life 150w fixture

I have been running a Aquapod 24g for about a year and half now. 2 days ago i upgraded from the stock lighting to the aquatic life 150w 10k swing arm fixture. My question is is this light suitable to be the only light source for the tank. also, what kind of corals can i get with this light? and will i be able to keep a clam in the tank now?

    my water parameters are :
    nitrates 0
    phosphate 0
    calcium 450ppm
    dkh 10
    ph 8.2
    temp 78-79

currently in the tank i have a couple different types of mushrooms that have been thriving, and couple stocks of xenia.

    Hi Bobby, to TR!

The 150 watt MH should be fine as the sole light source for your tank. With it you should be able to keep most any coral and I think it will be fine for a clam too. You will need to acclimate the corals you now have to the stronger light.

is there somewhere on the forums where i can read about how to acclimate the corals?
I think i fried one of my xenia.. it was looking healthy until i added the new light.

I use to run my lights for 8 hours a day.

I was doing a little research and somone suggested turning the lights on for 1 hour the first day, 2 hours the second day, 3 hours the third day, etc..

does this sound like a good idea to help acclimate the corals?

Cutting the time back then gradually increasing it, moving the light away from the water and then lowering it over a week or two and adding layers of window screen and removing them one every couple days are all ways to acclimate corals to the light. You can do more than one of these at a time. For instance raise the light up and decrease the time when you add a new coral. Then lower the light a little one day and increase the time a little the next until you have stepped back to normal. I don't think you can exactly set a schedule, you have to keep monitoring the corals and be prepared to go back a step if they start looking "off" even by a little bit.
