    honest opinions needed

so in everyones honest opinion which would be the better choice mh or t5? i am upgrading to a 90 gallon tank which will be 48x18x24. i am wanting to do a mix of lps and sps with the occasional softie. so what do you think my best bet would be?

Assuming 4x54w T5s with individual reflectors, I think the T5s are the right choice here. I'm a big fan of MHs, but since this is not going to be an all SPS tank, if you keep your SPS in the top half of your tank, I think the T5s are the better choice in this case. Less heat, less energy consumption, adequate light.

    I agree with Pearson.

There is no elevator to success in marine tanks. You have to take the stairs.

thank you all soo much. i am able to get so many opinions on here about real life people. i hate to read reviews cause they are typically written by people who only write reviews and all of tend to be very negative. if i stick with my 30x12.5x25.5 tank would the opinions stay the same? me and the wife were talking and we might try to wait for the bigger setup till we arent moving so often. please opinions wanted and needed.

I would think so. Unless you have a particularly deep tank, or an SPS/clam heavy tank, T5s should be perfectly fine.

I’m running a 72" Nova Extreme Pro T5. It is essentially a low end fixture. (I didn’t have a clue) It came with bulbs. I thought that was great because I didn’t have to make that decision (I don’t have a clue about T5 bulbs, there’s too many of them). Their bulb choice SUCKS. That was bad because I’m already swapping out bulbs looking for the color POP I’ve seen with T5’s. So, it’s okay but not spectacular.

I’m about to order a 48" Tek 8 x 54 watt to see how I like it. I’m looking for that special light for the aquaculture facility. I don’t really want to go MHs. Here is a link to the Tek - Tek T5 8x54 watt - and a couple of pics from the linked site.

If anyone is interested, These will run $455 shipped. I’ll be ordering Monday. I know nothing about these lights except they are highly recommended. Other sizes are available.
