Hi William and to TR. What wattage are the bulbs in your nano?
Hello there,
I am new to this site and i have a question to ask. I have a 9g nano reef and i recently added a few corals such as a couple heads of lobo, 4 heads of candy cane and a frag of monti cap! They seem to be doing fine even though I have only had them for a week. They are under 50/50 power compact lighting and there are a few mushrooms, palys, zoas, and some xenia in there with it. I have been successful with frogspawn and gonioporas and was hoping that i might be able to keep at least the candy cane and lobo because i know if the monti cap does grow i will need to take it out as it will shade the entire tank!
Thank you for reading and I hope to hear siome great advice!

18 watts so its 2 watts per gallon
As an FYI, although you hear people quote it watts per gallon doesn't tell you much. A tank of the same gallons can have a variety of depths and the shallower the tank the more light that is available to corals. The really useful number is PAR or photosynthetically available radiation which tells exactly how much light is available. However, most people don't have a PAR meter so this number is hard to come by.
So anyhow, you don't have an unusual amount of light for the size of your tank. Monticaps are one of the lower light SPS corals but I think it may just kind of fade away. Candy canes are pretty low light and will probably be OK. The lobo is lower light too but if it is really bright it may loose color and become less vibrant.

wow! Thanks, that helps a lot...
although i am having trouble with my candy cane!!!
it isnt coming out at all and its been over a week, yesterday it came out just a little bit but it hasnt fully opened up, i think i lost it!
what do you think?
Do you see any of the corals skeleton? Do you have a pic? It not opening for a week does not sound good. Where is it placed in the tank? Is there any direct flow hitting it? What is your parameters as of right now? Sorry for all the questions.

no worries, i cant tell if it is the skeleton or it is actually the coral itself... the candy cane is super green, very vibrant! I have it placed more towards the bottom of the tank maybe 10" from the light, but it is within a good range of the lighting. The water parameters are fine, even had them checked at LFS.
BUT I DID NOTICE YESTERDAY, THAT WHEN I FED MY CLEANER SHRIMP SOME FREEZE DRIED BRINE SHRIMP, FEEDER TENTACLES DID COME OUT OF THE CANDY CANE!!! I dont understand, maybe the candy cane i have is still a small one and doesnt really come out as much as I have seen other ones come out?
Any advice is helpful thank you!!!!
Mine isn't the green variety but it usually only extends feeding tentacles after lights out or when I feed the tank. Here it is under actinics.
