I have several sections of acrylic tubing laying around that I picked up to see about doing a couple of DIY projects. Specifically, I had planned on making a sulfur denitrator and a calcium reactor. I had begun giving some thought to sourcing the bits I would need for the denitrator. Flanges, dispersion plates, filter pads, etc, when I realized I basicaly had exactly what I was looking for sitting in my spares bin. An extra TLF Phosban reactor should work quite nicely.
John Guest fittings just happen to friction fit perfectly into the rubber elbows on the top of the reactor, allowing me to use a spare aqualifter pump to feed the reactor, and the valve on the effluent line allows fine tuning of the drip rate.
Time will tell how effective it is without recirc, but I'm thinking it will do just fine.

PHURST
SO what was the outcome ??????
I built one very much like that one, and after fiddling with it for a couple weeks, I finally started seeing results. If it moved my nitrates down a couple of ppm's I'm not sure... What it did was annihilate my alk. I had to add 1/4 cup of baking soda every am and pm to keep the alk near 10dkh, but the swings were so extreme I started losing corals. My xenia is a tiny stalk barely hanging on now, and my green star polyp hasn't shown itself in a few days (I also had a salinity issue yesterday, so that is also a factor with the green star polyp) I turned off the denitrifier last week and my parameters settled, so I'm pretty much finished with it. I might turn it into a calcium reactor.
Hi Janey, it's good to have you pop in!
