Same here Carmie, it will be nice to meet you in person.
I have that exact tank which I won in a raffle. After building a stand for it I will work toward getting it setup. Great looking tank and I am really looking forward to getting it setup.
Good luck catching the Mantis, hopefully it goes well.
When you were describing the other I also though aiptasia. take care of it before it spreads.
Great updates everyone! I am planning on attending MACNA 2011. By planning now I am sure I can go. This looks like a great event and is sure to be very educational.

I am also unable to attend and will look forward to a future event.
Here's hoping you get a new job!
Great looking fish. I hope you find a great breeder for them!
Dick stated my position on snakes very well. I prefer to leave them alone and would like for them to do the same.
As for the articles that Dick provided links to I would highly recommend them...
Technically distilled water is very pure. The unknown factor is how the facility handled the distilled water (such as were there copper parts in contact with the water). You could contact the...
I used distilled water before I found that my LFS supplies free RO/DI water. The risk is that you may not know the source or how frequently the filters are changes. I have not had any problems...

Sounds like you have some great setups and I would love to see some pictures :pic:
 You can bypass pictures of the snakes though :eek!:

Scary how something small can sneak by. Glad you caught it and I hope you are able to eradicate the little devils.
That's pretty surprising. I hope they are responsive in a meaningful way to your letter of concern. I will be watching this thread to hear what comes of it.

That is one nice pony Carmie! Only 7634 miles on the odometer!?! That's so cool, have fun driving with the top down this summer Carmie.
That's awesome! With the bangaii cardinal being over harvested from its natural habitat there is a huge need for captive bred sources. I like your choice of fish to breed! Hopefully you will keep...
Nothing wrong with a nice FOWLR tank! What kind of fish you thinking of breeding?
That is an amazing piece Dick!!! All the pictures of it are great though my favorite is that close up in your last post.
Just a heads up that Petco is having a sale on tanks. $1 per gallon so a 20 gallon would be $20. Not sure how long the sale last.
Here is a great article on the QT tank and process:...
Congrats on getting married, best wishes to you and your wife! You have a great setup I love your tanks!
I really like how that came out, can't wait to see it in the tank!
Have you tried adding a few peppermint shrimp? I have seen videos of them going to town on Aptasia.
Looks like Donkey Kong!!!
Glad you got him out of your tank, I have never even heard of "gorilla" crabs.
I am sure someone more experienced will know what the filter is. Like I said there is a wealth of knowledge to be had on here...I am not the one holding that knowledge:)
I would think everything was irritated by the mess and the jump in no3. Hopefully cleaning out the mucus and doing water changes will help them recover.
Your off to a good start.
When you say tap water filter do you mean an RO/DI filter?
What are your plans for stocking? Is this going to stay FOWLR or do you plan on going reef?
:eek!:
Sorry to hear it died. Hopefully you can clean out your tank and get the levels in normal range pretty quick.

Seems the great barrier reef had a pretty bad incident recently with a ship running into it. I hope the damage from the actual impact as well as the toxic paint that was left behind is not bad as...
Do you have empty shells of various sizes in the tank for them? When the crab gets larger it needs a larger shell...maybe the big crab wants to try on the other shell (unaware it's actually...
Just be sure NOT to use copper based medications in a reef tank or you'll get rid of more than ich ;)
