Post Deltec FR509 Media Reactor.

I'm curious to know if anyone has personally used the Deltec FR509 Media Reactor. I'm doing some research on what external pump to purchase since this is going to house Fauna Marin Ultra Carb L media. The Deltec website specifies a required flow rate of 140gph. I'm considering purchasing an Eheim Hobby Pump and their are two models. Which would I be better off with?

Model: 1048 rated at 160 gph for $56.99
Model: 1250 rated at 320 gph for $69.99

I haven't used this reactor but I would go with the 1048. I think with more than twice the recommended flow that the contact time with the media would not be long enough and you will not get the Ca levels you desire.

CarmieJo, that makes perfect sense but just to let you know. This is not a Calcium Reactor. It's just a standard Media Reactor (example Carbon, Rowaphos, Sand).

Oops, didn't read that as well as I might have. But I think the principal holds true, flow is related to contact time and that is related to effectiveness.

I know at least one local who uses this reactor. His is "Teed" off his return pump with a ball valve to tune the flow. I think I'd go with the 1250 and a valve to adjust flow as necessary.
