ATO Pumps

I am building a custom ATO system. I would like to pump water from a 10 gallon rubbermaid tub to the sump. Anyone else doing this? What pump are you using? I was thinking of using a "hobby pump" like is used in small fountains because they can run in very shallow water and for ATo you don't need fast transfers.

so your going to have a return pump in your sump thats feeding your display which in turn overflows into the 10g rubbermaid which your going to use another pump from the rubermaid to the sump?

if this is the case i would just use 1 pump from the sump and drill a hole in the rubermaid eliminating the need for another pump. also so you dont need to match pumps for proper flow, just use gravity.

No, I am simply going to put a low level float switch and a high level float switch in my sump. When my sump level drops it will kick on a pump in the 10 gallon rubbermaid container and top off the sump with RO. The high level switch is an emergency shutoff in case something sticks causing the sump to fill too full.

get a peristatic pump and calibrate it the maximum amount it can pump in 24 hours. your low level sensor will be on to keep the peristatic pump on, put if the sensor fails, the peristatic pump will not be able to flood your tank(or sump) if you do the math correctly.

i have a 5 gallon bucket with a pump connected to a float switch.
the float drops and kicks on the pump.
the pump shoots water in to top off the tank with kalk.

you can use any small powerhead that will connect to airline or vinyl tubing.

I've used aquaclear pumps, maxijet pumps and now an aquamedic peristatic pump. All work fine.

I use a Mag 5 with my ATO. Only because I had one sitting around that was going unused. It sits in a 5 gallon bucket so if the sensor goes bad the most it could dump is 5 gallons.
