ecotech vortec power head

those of you interested in this krazy new power head and was wondering about the controller they promised that would wirelessly control up to 10 vortec pumps, ecotech says

"the controller will be available within the next year. We are working
feaverishly on it. There is not estimated price yet however."

wireless?? will that mean bluetooth for us?? haha that would be very kool..

an RF recieving crystal maybe.

considering u still need power cables, is the wireless idea so u can keep the controller out of harms way

i didnt find much info on how they were going to set up the wireless controller but i did find some threads that mentioned that they were still working on algorithms for the wave simulations. but if its wireless it will be supcitible to interference by other high powered devices. it will be interesting to c how they do this.

Pham411,

My understanding is that there are no wires in the aquarium and that the motor section that is outside the aquarium is wired. I may be wrong. The pictures on the Marine Depot site are computer generated not actual photos of a unit. From what I've heard the motor on the outside of the glass is magnetically coupled to the impeller which is inside the tank. Magnetism keeps them stuck together and makes in the impeller spin sort of like a glass cleaner magnet that spins on a bearing. This would have a positive effect of generating less heat in the water. But you wouldn't be as able to point it if you need to. It'd actually be prettty easy to design a wave controller for one of these depending on what kind of motor they use. Just vary the voltage going to them to vary the speed. I like the fact that it has a 24 hour battery backup.

oops!...i just posted about this pump (please feel free to delete, rob)

i am wondering how many i would need and what the dimensions are

jim, i read that the water is so distributed that there is no need to direct the water in any direction

The 24 hour backup you mention is an option, who knows how expensive that is going to be.

the pump

hoping to get mine this week and no honestly don't mind the wait since Ice Cap deplay was because Ice cap wanted the 1st batch to get a differnt shaft so they got the list of customers and shipped them replaments before there was a songle complant. so once I have mine I will get the same service I am setting mine up in a 194 I will be putting a red dragon pump in line rated at 2200 gph 0 heat not a cheep pump by any means but by it once by it right deal.

http://www.aquariumspecialty.com/cat...roducts_id=647

wil the Vortech I will have roughly 6000 GPH on my tank about 30 times turn over I also have for nozels that will be hooked up to the Dragon a 2 SCWD's in between them I will update with pics when I get it all going I think the tank will be very happy with the set up.

SCWD's are going to kill your flow of the RD, how about a 4 way oceansmotions.

was told the SCWD would be better

have to do some more reserch on that and then the best way to run it the ports were setup to be in series but two 2 way scwd's would be easy 4 way more trouble more reserch I guess lol

Don't you just love this hobby.

I would just hate to see you put a pair of cheap SCWD's on a nice dragon pump.

just to throw in my two cents, i have used the SCWDs before and while its true flow is reduced, in my situation putting about 900GPH to it, the actually flow loss was barley noticeable.

not saying the SCWDs are better than OceanMotion, as i have never used one, but i dont think there "as" bad, but thats just based on my use of one.

i agree with Rob, i have used them before. most complaints are from people using a pump with more flow than a SCWD was designed to handle.
