Quiet One 4000 vs Mag 9.5

I am looking at either of these two pumps to power my return and wanted to get some user feedback on these puppies. The flow rates are similar when you get to the head and plumbing I am planning, the costs are about the same with the Quiet One coming in a bit less and is rated at 50w vs 93w for the Mag.

I have read mixed reviews on both and figured I'd get your perspectives. I do like the fact that the power consumption is about half for the QO since every penny counts and would rather pay a LFS than the utility company!

I have three of the Quiet Ones....and I'm not too impressed with them. I don't think they're that quiet either, although I can't really compare them to other ones, such as a Mag.

What the Quiet Ones definitely aren't good at is maintaining pressure with head loss. If you have to pump the water over much vertical distance, I wouldn't recommend them. Compared to other pumps, they certainly lose quiet a bit with vertical distances.

Thanks PhotoJohna nd Reefbaby...I am looking at around a 600gph overflow feeding my sump and guestimating at around 5-6 ft of head loss when its all said and done, so using the calculations at reefcentral, I'd be getting around 600-650gph on either the Mag or the QU...I heard the older Quiet Ones were really nice and their new redesign isn't that good. I think I'll be safe and go with the Mag since I heard pretty good stuff on those. I've been eyeing Craigslist for used ones and was about 30 minutes too late calling on a used Mag 9.5 for $40
