I may be the only one, but I haven't seen it yet, so thanks

I was just thinking about adding a powerhead to my tank, and since I've got about 10 maxi-jets laying around, this may be the way to go for me.

Yeah, that's pretty cheap. One LFS has them in stock, but they're $20+.

Look at Triton Aquatics before you buy. They have a mod as well. But there mod is a little different. It produces 2500 gph flow with the high flo version and 1600 with the low flow version. They even offer both versions in one kit!! I have three 2500's in my 120 mixed reef and the flow is awesome!!!

NO COMPLETES

Sorry to come to this thread late...The Gulfstream II Mod you mentioned looks very interesting. I wonder how they measure the flow of these devices...

Just a heads up, I purchased the Algae Free Sure Flow kit a while back and was disappointed with a few issues. Although $15 is not much to spend on an increase of flow of this magnitude, I cannot help to think that it could be built slightly better.

Here are my thoughts:

The device relies on the Maxijet mounting bracket (with suction cups - yuk!) unless you spend another $25 on the Algae Free magnet. There is no way to mount it to the vertical hangers supplied with the Maxijet pumps. The Sure Flow really seems designed for the magnet, but if you add the cost of the Sure Flow device $15 to the magnet $25, you might be better off buying a Koralia 4 (albeit 1200 gph) instead, and keeping the Maxijet for mixing salt or some other ancillary duty.

When compared to the Ecomod mod that does not come with any mounting accessories, I suppose the limits of the mounting options can be forgiven. However, I was not consoled with this thought when the thin plastic arm that allows the pump to be aimed broke without very much pressure beyond the physical limit of the ball and socket. I didn't realize that I was at the limit (I could not see it very well from my vantage point since the socket was obscured by the pump), and I tried to adjust it a little further. Without too much additional pressure, the arm just snapped off at the ball. Go figure. I consider this foible as half my fault (not having a good vantage point), and half the fault of the weak plastic. Probably not an issue as long as you are careful when adjusting your Sure Flow.

Likewise, the plastic shroud is also a thin plastic, but sturdy enough.

Lastly, upon initial startup - the pump emitted a loud clacking sound as the propeller hit the stop. I tried restarting a few times with no luck. The instructions mentioned something about raising the pump closer to the surface, so I gave that a try. No luck. Finally, I reassembled the pieces and within a few more restarts the propeller started rotating in the right direction.

With all that said, the Sure Flow did put out an impressive amount of current (which is mostly what this mod is all about). I just wonder if the competing mods (Sea Flow, Gulfstream in particular) provide more sturdy mounts.

At that much flow, I'm not sure I would trust a suction cup mount.

I agree with Tim. I might get one of these to try but only because I already have an extra magnet holder.
