Hydor Koralia 3 Circulation Pump/Powerhead UL 850 gph

I am thinking about getting two of these for my 75 gal reef tank. I would put one on oposite sides of the tank. I thought two Koralia 3's would be sufficient. Any thoughts or recomendations?

Tony,

The Koralia's are a great pump and very reasonably priced. They can be a bit hard to find. I ordered a bunch of them from my supplier and waited two months to get them. The supplier only filled half my order. I know Premium and Drs F&S were out for awhile too. The Koralia pumps are made in Italy and popular in Europe, too. I guess the manufacturer should boost production to make them more available.

Thanks for the input, what about putting these on a wave make? This one seems resonably priced? JBJ Ocean Pulse - DUO Wavemaker (2 pump Capacity) (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Wavemakers > External )

There was a thread about the Koralia not performing well on a wavemaker. I'm not sure if it was on TR or another site. Don't tell Rob I visit other sites.

It's something to do with the pulsing and the Koralia's magnetic coupling between motor and impeller. I'm not sure, can't remember. But, Koralia has stated they are working on a wavemaker for the koralia.

I'm not familiar with the WM you selected. I have an old wavemaker that I've never used. I'll set it up and see how it works. I have a 135 with one #4 Koralia. Now that I finally have more in stock I can try the wavemaker with two of them. I'll get back to this thread later today with the results.

I'm sending you a PM.

Dick

Well, the switching device has been running for 2 hours and I can't see a problem. The Koralias are coming on and off as the unit switches circuits. I'm pleased and my corals seem to be responding favorably by extending their polyps further. I think it's time to feed.

This switching device is a Sandpoint. I don't think they are in business any more. I bought a bunch of them in the early '90s and this one was discovered in a box of aquarium stuff when we moved to FL in 2005. It was brand new. Works great. It has a third timed control that shuts off the main pump for a set period of time for feeding, then comes back on automatically. Nice unit.

I have 2 Koralia 4's and 2 or the 3's in my 75 and I love them. I am going to buy a couple 1's or the new nano's for behind the rocks. Some people say they are too big but honestly after having the Seio 1500 and 2600 in my tank they look tiny.

Anyone have a suggestion for the setting on the wave maker? I have one pump in each rear corner of the tank pointed toward the front middle glass.

Turn it on and play with the setting until you get the results that are pleasing to you. Everything in the tank will enjoy the current.
