Egg Crate Color and handling bubbles

I'm still catching up with old podcast eposides; there was eposide where it was suggested that we never cover our tanks. We should use egg crate for the cover so the tank can breath. However, I have 2 question on that:
  1. What color egg crate should we be using? Does color have any effect on the light or is white the color of choice?
  2. I have a wave maker in the tank and it generates a lot of bubbles. My cover used to keep the bubbles somewhat contained, eventhought it is probably the biggest area of salt creep for the tank. Without a cover, is there a way to reduce the bubble from bursting on the surface and creating a splash?

thanks,

Jerome

1.) if egg crate is used white is preferred (note that egg crate does decrease light penetration)
2.) i would look at the wavemaker/powerhead, it shouldn't be generating noticeably continuous amounts of bubbles

Actually, I should note that I have a surger, not a wave maker. The surger works by creating a siphon, so when the siphon is working, the water just flows out of the surger, down 2 feet of tubing down to the tank until the siphon is broken. It works pretty well, but it does create a lot of bubbles. I'm not sure what can be done since there is no place to make adjustments.

ah.. ok, that makes more sense.
yes, thats going to create more bubbles than a wavemaker/powerhead setup
