I have an overflow system(the one with the box in the tank and the box behind it outside the tank running by a syphon) that is so friggen loud when i dont put the sponge over the hole. But that's just it, when i put the sponge over the hole, it slows the rate down to the
sump and then the return from the return pump over-flows and i got saltwater all over my bedroom(2 times now). Luckily i cought it (for the 2nd time now and yes i have cleaned the sponge) so no equipment got damaged, but my room has had 5+ gal all over the carpet twice now. My mom wants the tank gone and i promised her it wouldn't happen again and i don't want to lose it. But she hates the sound it makes when i dont have the sponge in the overflow box. I have ball joint restrictors to slow the rate both ways, but when i put the sponge in i have to cut the return rate in half and i know that can't be good for the pump. So any ideas on how to quiet it?? Please save my tank!!!

P.S. My room STINKS bad, any ideas on clean up? The accident happened a week ago and the week before that. I swept up the water that i could, but obviously it didn't work out cause my room smells BAD. Worse than a
LFS! Thanks so much for the help.
