I traded for a skimmer that I think will definitely beat what I have been using....the body is 32" tall and it has a 6" diameter....can anyone tell me what brand it is ?

just for size comparison,I've been using 2 turbofloater 1000.....here is 1 of them compared to the skimmer I'll soon be using

I have a 6" PVC skimmer now...
I still have to rework it,I started out with a skimmer that was almost 6ft tall,my pumps couldn't pull air in with that much pressure on 'em,I shortened it to 4 ft and they're pulling air now but still aren't as good as they need to be,I have an air pump feeding 'em and it's working but it needs more air.....the sedra is a lot better than the aquamedic pumps at pulling air but I made a DIY ventri for the aquamedic pump so it may be some of it's problem
I had both of my aquamedic pumps on it but I couldn't get the other 1 to stop leaking so I replumbed the sedra to it and the plumbing looks like crap now especially after recutting and splicing and using old scrap pieces.........once I settle on what is working best,I'll build another body and make it look a lot better, for now it's an experiment
here's some pics of it....I think it'll work better once it's broke in,but we'll see

I drilled the collection cup and glued in a nipple so it could drain into a bucket,I also replaced the plastic screws with stainless so I could get the flange to stop leaking,I broke 3 of the plastic ones trying to stop the leak
here's more pics

here's a video of my chaeto factory
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0swLeG-NsLg
I snapped a few pics of the chaeto factorys pump for ya,it's a CoralVue High Seas 202B High Output DUAL Propeller Driven PowerHead 3000 gph.....pay no mind to the cayno growing on the bottom,it always does that after I trim the chaeto back, after the chaeto grows back out some, that goes away.....they say that stuff can't hang on where the water flow is strong but I have proof that it can :D

this is where the tank is at today....more update as things progress...if some of my post doesn't make sense, this was all copied from another forum and pasted here,if you have any questions, please ask,I'll try to answer :D
dimensions of the tank...it's 96"lx36"wx27"d but the water level is at 24"d...about 360g tank,400g system approximately...over 400lbs of rock, couple hundred lbs of sand...5 sureflow modded MJ powerheads on a natural wave wave maker(2 on/2 off every 3 mins...1 on/off every 6 mins) 1325gph little giant return pump with a 1" scwd wave maker...eheim 1262 feeding the DIY recirulating skimmer...and soon I'll replace most,if not all,the powerheads with a hammerhead pump on a closed loop system, just been waiting til I could afford a OM 4 way for the outputs which will go over the top of the tank,I didn't want to drill too many holes in the walls :D
lighting consists of 2 48" Odyssea fixtures MH/PC combos,I've replaced the PC bulbs with UVL 65w super actinics and the MH bulbs with 14k Phoenix 250w DE.....I also replaced 2 of the Odyssea MH ballasts with Lumatek,I need 2 more...the Odyssea ballasts are good but the lumatek are so much brighter :D
a FTS...

last week I restacked my rock and moved some stuff around,I wanted my rock pile back closer to the back wall and each end and have more swimming room in the front and center,I also removed my polario and tried to hide the MJs a little better, trying to clean up the look a little
I still need to replace the 10k bulb on the left side with another 14k,I had a ballast burn out and it took out the bulb with it....got my replacement ballast....Lumatek and MD rocks

Holy Cow! That is amazingly impressive! I've seen a few plywood builds, but nothing of this scale. I may have missed it, but what's the volume on that thing?
-
:D thank you....I was still reediting my last post to include all the info on it...it's roughly 400g system

Looks awesome. Well done.
