As mentioned in Episode 30, in late febuary Dave P is going to be doing a show with me about seahorses. In this show we will be covering the basics about filtration, lighting, water, setup, and co-inhabitants.
if you have any special questions that you would like for Dave to and answer on this show, please post then in this thread.
A few days before that show, we will gather the questions and answer as many as we can on the show.
Please be advised, questions asked here, will be answered on the show, not in this thread, if you need help with something that is more urgent, please post in one of the other discussion forums.
Thanks

I would be interested in what other species you could keep with seahorses. Corals or no corals? What size of tank is a reasonable size for them?
And also the eco-environmental issues with seahorses. Are they considered a difficult species to keep and shouldn't be imported or do they breed well in captivity, so it's less of an issue?
I've always been so fascinated with aquatic equines. They're so lovely to watch and so gentle with each other....and I love the fact that the males are the ones to get pregnant!!!! :-)
Great questions Christi! I will be covering this exact information in the upcoming podcast. I will be limiting my discussion to Hippocampus Reidi (The Brazilian Seahorse) but most of what you asked about can be applied to most, if not all seahorses.
Stay tuned, you will be pleasantly surprised! I'm real excited about this future show.
Keep the questions coming folks. There is NO SUCH THING as a "dumb" question on the Talking Reef. The only dumb questions are the ones not asked that results in problems later on. Your question may spare another member from heart aches with their own systems and inhabitants.
I just had the experience of talking with one of my son's friend's mother. She saw the display tank in my family room and said "I didn't think seahorses were real"! I love that line. It is my 'open door' to teach them about these cool fish.
I want to answer all of YOUR questions in this show..so my TR peers...what do you want to know about H. Reidi?
I don't know anything about SeaHorses !
I want learn more about those fishes.
When people say SeaHorse Tank, that means ONLY seahorses ? Can you mix then with anyother fishes , coral , inverts ?
Filtration ? tank size ? water param. ......
A lots and lots of question for the show !!!!

First and foremost...what would you like me to call ya? BySeven? Never after 7 You can call me Dave but don't call me to tell me my sump is overflowing
Great questions... most if not all will be covered in the show. IF WE can't get to all your questions, I can post my "Care sheet" that I give to folks who buy my ponies.
Gotta run.. Ponyboy, my prolific male, just gave birth to more fry this morning. Time to start a siphon and a kreisel system ... the fun never ends.
Oh yes, this will be a fun one. I'd love to learn about propagating them. How your kreisel works, what you feed them and at what stages? How difficult are they to keep? How are they doing in the wild?
Maybe a 2 part show on seahorses would work. A first show about them and then the second show on taking care of the fry maybe? Sounds like there is plenty of information to do that.

this is a great idea, and was pretty much what i was planning for as time allows.
dave and i want to start with the basics (as i do with all TR things),
but as long as there as interest, and Dave is up to it i do wan tto do a second part on breeding and fry care.

Are seahorses active pets? I am considering using my newly set up tank as a horse corral...but I don't know about what species I can keep in a 15 gallon tall. So anything about what horses in what size tank would be great to do on the show! I would also love to know about horses I can keep in a 15 gallon tall w/o any major feeding issues (no micro sized horses here) or chilling issues. Again, basic tank requirements and feeding requirements would be what I want in the podcast!
seahorses and dwarf seahorse setups. that would be cool. I want to get an idea for my mothers 5 gal in her science class. Ive read about it but would like to get some more feedback to how many to keep and what kind. Also, price and availability would be a good area to talk upon. good luck.
