Thumbs up Hobbyists Helping The Hobby - Podcast Episode 60

Hi,

As a new member to the forum and with "under" basic knowledge of marine/reef keeping I totally found this episode very useful.

Most of all I felt even more welcomed to the forum, knowing that rob and the crew have genuine feeling in the way the forum should work and how important it is to make everyone feel welcomed no matter your experience or what question you ask.

You can be guaranteed no question will be treated with contempt, everyone will try to point you in the right direction.

Building on ideas and a friendly community.

Even if you need advise on how to support the community you will find the answer in this weeks podcast

Great podcast

Hey all,

I have to agree with what cmay and Rob say, this is a very nice community. One of the reasons I like doing the podcasts with Rob is that I know I'm supporting a friendly environment. MANY educational studies have shown that when people are in a welcoming and safe environment they are much more open to learning and freely sharing information.

I'm all about being involved with a place that squashes personal attacks, well except for when we all gang up on that newbie Rob

for some strange reason mine cut off before the end. but i got most of it!
as i said at the begining i was waiting for a verbal introduction from the text eddition. i know these pages are long gone after a while gathering dust somewhere, & the podcasts remain. personally ive tried to expand alittle into surrounding topics within a topic. that little bit extra helps people see the strings, which in turn makes the whole puppet show seem understandable in packet sized chunks. i would not suspect people see it as hijaking if they learn alittle extra yeah?

I totally agree with Brian's comment, when your start anything new in life you need to feel your in a safe environment where others will guide, point and pick you up when you feel defeated.

I have experience many situation where others do not like to share knowledge or belittle you when your trying to understand them.

I personally do not have time for people who try to stand high because of superior knowledge unless im trying to convince them knowledge shared is knowledge gained.

Hmmmm'' That’s all a bit heavy.

Like I said before this podcast sums up the forum nicely.

Chris,

Very nice response! You are right on the money about needing a safe environment and it amazes me when someone gets criticized for not knowing something. There is simply too much information out there to adsorb by one person and attacking someone, especially without giving them information to "correct" their mistake helps no one and hurts the person who made the "mistake".

u know this is kinda the case, but it also depends on who's asking. i love to stand tall in all walks of life, knowledge included, but the difference is i try to bring as many people as i can with me, cause lets get real about it > the views better up there!

I guess what im trying to say, is that I don’t like people staring down their noses at people because they feel they are better than others due to superior knowledge or anything else for that matter.

Massive difference from walking tall in life to looking down on life.

Keep a space up there in marine sky as im on my way up (slowly on the way)
