"If they but knew it, almost all men in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the ocean with me.... There is magic in it. Let the most absent-minded men be plunged in his deepest reveries--stand that man on his legs, set his feet a-going, and he will infallibly lead you to water, if water there be in all that region."
Those of us that frag and grow corals for distribution are already considered farmers. That article is disturbing but speaks of the decline of food species due to overfishing in certain areas. Certainly this is a concern. We should all be just as concerned about our reefs and I'm sure most of us are. I say most because there are some who don't take the necessary steps to insure the long term health of the species we keep. There initial set-ups are bare boned and leave much to be desired for the care and safe keeping of our system's inhabitants.
That's why we as forum members must educate, educate, educate about current acceptable, successful practices in reef keeping. I believe we on TR do a good job of that.

Reaching my 70th BD, I realize that I cannot help but grow old. However, I refuse to grow up!!! My wife would tell you, "He may be 70 but, He's going on 17". Life is wonderful with a woman like that.
It more dirrected to the eating side though Amp, last i looked i wasn't chowing down any acro chips. Although its a dirrect result that nails the reefs and eco systems through loss of bio diversity. Sad days ahead for us all. Regardless if your a reefer or SW warrior, does'nt matter what level your at in this branch of the hobby, its still bringing out a state of awareness in us all! I just hope theres enough of us to push an agenda that warrents change before mass cultivation & human intervention are need to ensure future stocks are not wipe out in the way of the do_do!
yes, very sad days...i was reading that even if they do limit fishing there will still be major shortage, because of population growth...the earth, as a whole, cannot sustain our population growth

My entire life was/has been influenced by one man. I watched him teach as a disciple to Jesus...I mourned his passing in 1997 with as much sorrow as others did in 1963, 1968 and 1977 when Dr. King, John F. Kennedy and Elvis died (respectively). He forever heightened my awareness in regards to TRUE global issues. He was the reason for my first marine aquarium system.. and he said:
“Farming as we do it is hunting, and in the sea we act like barbarians.” ... “We must plant the sea and herd its animals using the sea as farmers instead of hunters. That is what civilization is all about - farming replacing hunting.”
