Rock scaping question

Hey everyone this might be a dumb question but I am looking at redoing the way my 75 gallon tank looks after I move. I some tanks that have a awesome looking live rock wall on the back of there tank I wanted to do the samething but was wondering can live rock be stacked like that against the back without it making dead spots for bacteria to breed. Or if anyone knows any good tricks for rcok scaping I would be most apprecative thanks.

i have a rock wall against the back glass in my 75 and it does create dead spots in flow and detritus builds up . but i just make sure when i do my weekly water changes i blow it all out with a turkey baster and suck it up and have never had a problem .

It can but another trick I learned "thanks Carmie" is to put a small power head that points directly into that area to help keep the detrius down.I run mine all of the time. CarmieJo says she runs hers for I think 1/2 hour at night to clean it out.

Yep, it comes on for a half hour in the middle of the night.

some people on RC use it. You might want to ask there as well

Check out some stuff from Scott Fellman on biotopes if you're looking for something different. May not be everybody's bag but he challenges reefkeepers to try something different from the rock wall approach. I'm basing my tank on a Palau reef rubble zone and am going with an assymetrical mound approach. I am pretty happy wth my rock layout (ok about 75%) and need to get in and do some minor tweaking before getting my critters

I heard Scott at the Raleigh Aquarium Society's Workshop in the spring and his talk and images were very helpful.

Catching up on old posts Carmie. Was chatting with Scott the other day and he's doing two presentations at MACNA this year. He's been a great resourse and mentor to me and is always fun to chat with. I plan on doing an interview with him for my persobal blog after MACNA, so I will be sure to post something here as well

Yes I saw him in the MACNA lineup. I'll try to catch his talks although I think one is opposite something else I wanted to hear.
