Question Unusual Clown Fish Behavior

Hello all -

We just got a clown fish added to our reef tank. The clown fish keeps hovering in one corner of the tank (mostly behind the rock) and doesn't swim around much. Shouldn't he be more active? Please let me know whether or not this behavior is normal. Thanks in advance!

definatly normal! You may even look ino the tank after lights out and find him "laying" in the same spot, dont panic (right away anyway!) Is he a little guy? What kind?

Agreed that it's normal clown behavior. Once they find a spot, they don't typically stray far from it. As long as it's swimming and eating, I wouldn't worry.

He's a little guy, an orange clown fish (just like Nemo of course) My fiance bought this tank for a great price - 150 gallons, tons of live rock, with the water, etc. It's our first tank so everything is so exciting. He made fun of me because I wouldn't stop taking pictures of the sand-sifting star-fish! Everything's so fascinating and beautiful. The clown is our first fish - what the reef store recommended. I'm finding it hard not to get attached to what we're putting in there - naming it, etc. I'll have to get a handle on that Thanks for all of your responses, he actually swam in the FRONT corner for about 10 minutes. Now I feel better, thanks all!

Hello Melinda and to TR.

I agree, since you have all those pictures it would be a shame to waste them. Why not start a Member Tank Projects - The Talkingreef Community and post them.

dont worry I am definatly an obsessed fish keeper. most of us are!! I am constantly looking for ANYTHING that may be wrong, any subtle changes, well just about anything period! My son just bought a tiny clown for the tiny tank he just set up in his room (I'll be needing more live rock and sand, Ive been robbed!). He really thought the clown was dead, he turned on his light to get ready for bed (fish was obviously already IN bed), and it was laying on its side in the corner, it didnt even look llike it was breathing! A little live brine showed us that all was just fine! Welcome, and would love to see some photos!!
