Welcome to TR, ronnyv.

Wow, that figures out to over 400 gals. That is a big aquarium. a 1000w titanium heater would probably do the trick but, I think for safety reasons I'd opt for two 500w titanium heaters. First, a 1000w heater could soften, melt or even crack things it got to close to. Second, if it failed you would have no heat until you noticed it had failed. With 2 heaters you lesson the chance of cooking things and if one failed the other would provide some heat until you replaced the broken one.

The down side is the cost would double. But, anybody setting up a 400+ gal aquarium isn't going to worry about the cost of an extra heater, right?

I have a Titanium heater and think they are the way to go.

Hi Ronny and to TR.

WOW! Great gift! I agree with the 2 heater advice. Have you kept a saltwater tank before? What are your plans for it, FO, FOWLR, reef? What is the filtration method? What kind of lights? Does it have a sump? Let us know how we can help.

the 70 inch tank which i am now relazing is actually a reefing tank as it has many features ive seen in other tanks on this forum i was going to use it for freshwater fish keeping.

It has 4 light tubes 2 yellow 1 pink and 1 blue with 3 modes of light colours

a air pump with connecting tube to a green/blue stick to which when air passes through it creates small bubbles along the width of the tank

A 30 inch filter biggest one ive seen

And now ive purchased two 500w heaters

My questions is this tank as i think for marine fish not tropical ?

Do i need other equipment to start reefing?
e.g Like some kind of filter in barrels under the cabinet which keeeps the water circulating in and out of the tank like in the fish store.Or any other equiopment other than what i alrady stated

Is the airpump i have a protein filter ?

How do i make tap water into salt water do ineed to buy it from the fish store?

That's a big spread you're giving (170 - 140). the calculator should have given you an exact figure. What were the dimensions again?

Me too Bobby. That's why I'm confused by his post of 170 to 140 gal.

Scratching my head.
