i have some large green polyps id like to identify and possibly frag. help.
ive gor some green polyps id like to identify, and id like to get them throughout the tank, can anyone tell me how to frag a polyp, or if this can even be fragged.
heres some pics polyp1.JPG
They're palythoa "button polyps". They'll spread pretty readily, but you can frag them just like zoas. use a razor or sharp knofe and cut the mat that the polyps are growing from. You can then glue the polyps to a piece of rock, and they should do just fine.
i cant get them to spread at all naturaly. a cant get anything to spread, not even purple alge. i think its my lighting, but i cant afford any better. the light is a coralife 10,000k 25 watt.

Oh, yeah, that's not much in the way of lighting. These palys don't need much, but I'm not surprised they're not growing. These guys will eat quite readily though. Do you ever feed them?
Marine snow isn't going to do anything for these guys. They will take meaty foods. Try feeding them some mysis. They are capable of eatig quite a lot and that should help make up for the lack of light.
Yah, a healthy pod population is a good thing. Ya gotta have a lot of different critters in your tank to help take up nutrients to turn into biomass instead of having those nutrients break down. Someone once told me, diversity = stability.
