Yikes Help!!!

I have a biocube 29 & think I may have done something stupid!

I just pulled out the sponge in chamber 3 and shoved in a bag of Chemi Pure then turned on the filter & what looks like a bunch of soot came out & clouded my tank & some of the sand. Also if i wipe the walls of chamber 3 black "soot" comes off it. What did I do crush some of the chemi-pure? What should I do now - water is looking really murky!!! Will this hurt my tank? Should I take it out? HELP!!!!!!

sounds like carbon dust to me. things should be ok if it is, but i will let someone that uses Chemi-Pure answer from knowledge , rather than venturing a guess.

My only complaint with Chemi=Pure is the fact that the directions say rinse lightly. The first time I used it I rinsed lightly and had black dust all over my sand. It didn't hurt the fish but it took multiple water changes to get it all siphoned out of my tank. I now rinse it until the water runs clear.

THanks Carmie!

Happy that it won't hurt anything, but not looking forward to having to do more water changes!

I can really see every tiny bit of hairy growth in my tank now... SUPER!

I didn't do extra water changes, I just made sure to try and siphon the black stuff with my weekly water changes.
