Help! Skimmer suggestions - please!

Well, I was cleaning my skimmer cup tonight and dropped it. And it cracked - big time.

I have (had?) a Coralife Super Skimmer 65G. It was doing a pretty good job, til now.

I've been searching for the last hour or so, looking for suggestions.

This is for a 54G corner tank with a 15G Tall tank sump. LR, LS, LPS, softies and fish will inhabit the tank.

Can anyone give me some advice here?

Thanks,

Don

Oh crap man, sorry to hear that.

Hey, welcome to TR!

Since it is just the collection cup (right?) you could probably use some aquarium-safe silicone and patch up the crack. Did the cup actually split into pieces? or is part of the plastic just cracked?

I dropped the collection cup for my Euro Reef skimmer and it cracked. I was able to order a new one from the company. It was rather expensive - around $80 - but cheaper than a new skimmer. I was able to repair the cracked one enough to make it a viable spare.

First of all, don't worry about your tank, will be OK without the skimmer for a couple of days.

I would probably try to silicon the cup back together. I've never had an occasion to try this but maybe it would be better to use the weld-on stuff that is just for acrylic.

Replacement cup

Well, so far the cup is holding scum, even with the crack. I'll probably weld-on it later but in the mean time, I was able to order a replacement cup for $30 incl shipping.

I order it from Welcome to AquariumPart.com: The Web's Best Source for aquarium light bulbs & light parts, uv sterilizer parts, protein skimmer parts, aquarium filter parts, aquarium pump parts, and RO system parts. at the suggestion of Coralife. They have lots of replacement parts for all sorts of gear. Check it out. (No I am not affiliated, just surprised by the variety of parts available.)

Thanks for the suggestions -

Don
