would love to but here is the problem. I have a 90gal tank that sits about 6 in away from the wall , I tried to get a 20 gal underneath and would not angle in to get it under. of course I would of put a larger then that under it if i had known better at the time of starting this tank.. now being a year into this I am still new and finding that I have made many mistakes any ideas for me would help on getting a tank under there without emptying it all out would be great

You can do that. You can put the chaeto in their and use the sump like a fuge/sump. I did the same thing with mine when I took out the bio-balls. I don't have the space for the fuge.

That is what I have done. You can see a pix here Reefreaders - Refugium. I don't have much room under my stand and my corner tank does not lend itself to any HOB equipment so this was the best option I had for a fuge.

As wakbrdfr has stated you could remove the bio-balls and replace with chaeto. You can also replace with lr. What type of tank do you have? Are you keeping corals?

Oh now I see what you were saying. You want to place the chaeto in an area that has 3" of water. That would work. May not be enough room for LR as I've previously stated.
