I read in another post where someone fed garlic for the promotion of health and appetite. Is this true, and if so what kind of garlic and how much\often?
I use Seachem Garlic Guard. I read that it helps with the immune system. My fish love it but i would say it helps more with the health and maybe a fraction of the appetite. With my fish anyways. I have observed them with garlic and without and they are happy either way. I would highly recommend using Garlic Guard.
In all seriousness...I do use it, from time to time, to help entice my seahorse fry to eat frozen food. I'll leave it to the scientists to prove whether or not it helps with immunity/disease/etc...but I do note that the fish sense the food immediately, eat it vigorously, and overall, don't have any problems when I use garlic products.
same here..
i use it to entice feeding, and to help draw out other hidden critters.
Garlic is a natural antibiotic, for people and fish. i find that its better used as a preventative measure than a treatment.
i use it on all my fish every feeding

I forgot to add that i do feed every feeding as well.
I have also heard (and i use heard loosely) that garlic also increases the color. I would assume that the color increase would be due to the fact that is boosts the immune system and there for making the fish healthier and making the fish look healthier. Any comments on that?
I heard of peep's making it, was curious curious as of how they have done this. I have heard that somewhere on here was a website as to how. I would just be better off to go purchase a bottle be much easier im assuming.
fresh garlic extract is said to be slightly better quality and more effective, however there are major draw backs.
freshly pressed garlic has a very short shelf life, and requires a lot of manual effort.
getting a bottle of commercial garlic extract will cost you less than $15 and will last you months, since its concentrated and you only use a drop or two per feeding

Having an Italian family, I cook with garlic often enough. I go to work reaking like it! I couldn't imagine how long I'd stank of garlic if I were making my own extract
Dave, my husband is Italian and we also cook with lots of garlic. We buy it in 3# bags at Sam's Club. Once when our son was 3 or 4 a bag got left in the van. The next day I took him and his buddy to the park for a couple of hours. When we got back in the van, which was sitting in the sun, my son said "what smells so good?" and at the same time his friend said "what stinks?"! I guess it is all just a matter of perspective and good taste.
