oxygenation?

I've been listening to the talking reef pod-cast and have begun to realize that my hang on back filter could be holding me back. I have a large amount of Live Rock and a deep sand bed. To get to the question, without my filter what do I need to do for oxygen?

high turn over of water movement is your best bet with powerheads &/or eqivilent other re-circulating edditions.
welcome bud, they say the first post is always the hardest.

I have a protien skimmer and two power heads, 600 + 1200. Do my power heads have to break the surface? Thanks for the welcome. Will be posting some pics of my stuff soon have a coral to be I.D. and some more ???

your skimmer will work wonders for oxygenation, the only other thing is to point a powerhead or two at the surface, as you noted, it doesn't have to be crazy, you just want to get good surface movement going

Thank you!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Finally somewhere to talk fish. My wife has a short attention span for salt water talk. (she's a freshie).

Soon as I figure out how to add pics I have a coral to I.D. also.

Thank you again, And I commend you for setting up this wonderful site, have had bad experiences from others.

Welcome d-ster Hope you enjoy your stay

My girlfriend has a short attention span too. I once told her that my great white in the tank that is hosting with the volkswagon van has learned to read. she replied, "thats cool will the clowns bother it"? I guess we all learn to block things out lol

lmao.... wes, i feel ya....

d-ster, when doing a post, under the text box you will see options to add attachments, this is where you can attach images to a post.
or you can use something like photobucket, and then use the bbcode they give you
(i know, we should do a FAQ on this...)

when you do this, get a large clear close up shot of the specimen, a couple images is usually more helpful

Classic west. Flipping burgers & tank talk, these may not seem related, but to some people they are both boring. As long as it continues to look pretty & you let the comment "we" slide when friends pop over & she's referring to the tanks their happy not knowing.
