Biocube 29g pump question.

I'm planning to mod my Biocube 29 to get more flow. I tried adding a Nano Koralia but didn't like the aesthetics or placement. I have a mostly LPS tank so I don't need to go over board with tons of flow but would like more.

My plan is upgrade my current stock pump. Put a Y connector in the uptake tube. One going to the standard output port with a flo deflector. The other I will clip onto the plastic divider wall and have a nozzle point down into the tank.

With the new twists and turns added to the plumbing will I loose flow?
Does anyone have any pump suggestions?

Thanks for the feed back.

I believe that making the Y connector you will be loosing some flow. Even with a maxijet 1200 I dont believe that you would have suffient flow for the tank.

I have 2 hydor koralia #1and now that they have coraline algae growing on them they are really not too noticable. But I see where you coming from. Ill let someone else chime in about possible mods in order to create flow without powerheads but I would image it would have to be a closed loop type of thing, maybe with using a spray bar or something like that. But I really dont know too much about closed loops.

Post Reply to Biocube 29 gallon Pump Question.

Swampy, let me be the first to welcome you to the "Go Big or Go Home Nano Club". Personally I believe I am the President and also a member. I would suggest installing a EcoTech Marine Vortech MP40W on your 29 gallon Biocube. You can control the flow so you don't have your substrate flowing through the entire aquarium. It will provide you plenty of randomized flow and you will not be dissapointed. Also the real estate that it takes up is minimal and acceptable at best in my opinion. Here are some photographs of how I did it.

Raymen07, the Sumatra Powder Blue Tang was in my aquarium for about 3 months before I accidently overdosed with Vodka killing nearly everything in my aquarium. Lets get back to Swampy's questions.

not my questions this thread is Swampys. The ecotech marine vortech would be the best solution all around small foot print and amazing flow, low power consumption and low energy usage. But they are a bit pricy and maybe a bit unnessary for your LPS biocube. I ran across a thread on RC the other day and some one is using two MJ1200 both in the return chamber of their biocube and they use the "Y" locline idea that you had and have the second return come out of an opening they created towards the middle of the false wall. Makes it so you would not need to have any powerheads in your tank. I will look for that thread, but in the meantime it is something to consider.
