JBJ Nano Cube 24 (Deluxe?)

I have been reading up on Marine setups for a while now and pondering what the right tank for me was. I recently saw a Nano Cube for sale at a decent price. I don't know much about lighting however. What corals would I be able to keep in a Nano Cube? Deluxe? What is a good skimmer for nano cubes?

Well, with the stock lighting of the DX, you can keep, mushrooms, zoanthids, palythoas, xenia and other low light corals. There are a couple of specialized skimmers for nanos, but IMO, none of them work very well, and you are far better off maintaining good water quality through regular water changes.

I wouldn't necessarily reccomend a nano as a first marine tank. The reduced water volume makes it harder to maintain good water quality, and things can go down hill really, reallt fast.

Seahorsedreams will become famous soon enough
And you have to be prepared to deal with the heat in the summer if you don't have central AC... even then with a closed lid the heat can get too high. We had to buy chillers for all of ours.

My first marine tank was a 24g NC deluxe and it was quite difficult in the first few months...I also started off talking to my lfs(BAD BAD CHOICE)......The first few months we lost ALOT of fish mainly clownfish for unknown reasons, we checked our levels and everything was normal. A few months later we bought an engineer goby and by the 2nd day it had swam over the back wall and was shot out in several pieces through the powerhead, then a month or so after that our blue tang(2 1/2") decided to take a swim back there also and it took me over an hour to dig everything out to get her. SO we went and picked up filter mesh and had to silicone it to the hood of the tank so nothing else could swim back there...They do stay alot hotter than any of our other tanks.

But it is still my favorite tank.

I wouldnt however reccomend it for a starter tank.

my nano dx was great for about a year then the nitrates got wonky, i lost all my corals (about 1k worth) but all my fish are still fine. I really like the nano though. I also had a clown jump to the back twice, both times he survived. He is now named houdini.

its amazing really, you try so so hard at the begining not to fail, and chances are all of us come to grief at some point, then somewhere along the line even with purposeful mis-management you dont seem to kill a thing definatly out there!
