My Nano Cube 24 16-18 months old. This is my first all-in-one tank and I have to tell you that I am really disappointed. The quality of the materials in the hood is definitely sub standard. The plastic sockets that hold the posts on the feeding lid have both broken off. I am 49 years old and don't treat my aquariums roughly. For instance, I am using a Perfecto type plastic hood that is probably 10 years old on my quarantine tank and it functions perfectly. I have had aquariums my entire life, keep multiple tanks and have never had something like this happen in such a short period of time. I think this hood is defective in design, materials and/or workmanship. I know that my tank is not under warranty but this should not happen and I believe that you should have a retro-fit (reading on the forums this seems to be very common) or replace my hood.

To give them credit they replied promptly.
Hello Carmie, We are sorry to hear about your experience with the 24g Nano Cube. Unfortunately we cannot offer a warranty on the hood due to the time passed on the 6 month warranty. We do sell the entire canopy with lamps for $100 if you choose to purchase. All parts can be purchased by calling us at the number below.
I am at a crossroads with this tank. You may recall that I came home and found that both of the clowns in this tank had died the beginning of March. I don't know why, they were fine in the morning and dead in the evening. Everything else in the tank was fine.
I have ran the tank fallow for the last six weeks. It is being over run with pods and my corals are looking good.
So, lets talk, what fish do you think I should I add? I go for light bio-loads so I am thinking 2 - 4 small fish.
but seriously, i know exactly how you feel. i came home today to find a Vanderbilt Chromis AND my Chevron Tang dead. i dont know why, so i tested my water immediately. all i found was a low DKH, and that is being corrected as we speak. nothing that really should have affected the fish that bad though. i guess it is just one of "those things" that we have to go through. at least that is what i am chaulking it up to.

Seriously, why not just remove the top and replace the light? I had a cute clowns die mysteriously also. I traced the problem to ph swings caused by poor gas exchange. I can't remove the top on my tank(2yr old son) but when I added an air line from a pump getting outside air my ph stabilized. I tested also, but the swings were happening when I wasn't testing. Ironically, it took a $100 ph tester to make my $130 BC8 work effectively. I HATE killing fish!! I always feel somehow responsible, even when I'm not.
Have you checked with NanoTuners.com? They do conversions, maybe they have a stock top for sale.
The broken sockets don't keep you from using the hood, its the principal. I definitely wouldn't pay for another hood. I have thought about going to a Viper type light but am not sure.
