Sea Star

Can a Brittle Sea Star or Serpent Sea Star be placed in a 14g tank? If not are there any sea stars that can?

I'm curious too! My tank didn't get any noticeable stars as hitch hikers

I have a brittle star in my 24g nano. He does just fine and is about the size of a dinner plate! Make sure not to get a green brittle star, they will hunt and eat your fish!

Just remember that most stars are grumpy with higher nitrates. They become very sluggish. Also, keep in mind that for a small tank, they are a big bioload. They need to be spot fed too. Good feeding = good output = higher bioload = higher nitrates unless you are aggressive at water changes and skimming.

They do get big. It can be done, but I'd say 20 gallons is the minimum you'd want to put them in if you want to keep them through "maturity".

Yeah.. brittles are hunters. Serpents are nicer.

Are there any smaller stars that would be more nano friendly?

you can still get a small one, but may have to trade in or something in a couple/few years. By then, you'll be in a bigger tank

It happens often when you siphon water too close to zoanthid colonies
