Exclamation Beware of the nanocube

Two years ago, being a naive freshwater native, I bought a nanocube 24DX. Two years later, after replacing the stock pump which stopped working, as had the fans and moonlights, I updated the extremely insufficient stock lighting with the sunpod 150 (which i highly recomend). A week after I replaced the lights, which had been burning out every 2 months I noticed a large crack on the front of the tank. Three large cracks, actually. I emailed and called JBJ and they didn't respond. I am planning on filing a complaint with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission becasue of the electrical fire risk 24 gallons of spilt salt water poses. I am not the only one with this problem... just search nanocube on the nano-reef.com forums. I strongly urge that if you have a nano-cube, check for cracks immediately.

Hmm, thanks for the warning. I have a 12DX and have had no problems at all. I'll keep an eye on it though.

12 gallon cubes haven't had quite as many issues, and cubes made after 2005 have also had fewer problems. The cracking is generally delayed, mine appeared 2 years after it was first setup. . The cracking was probably induced by the sunpod, as it weighs slightly more than the stock hood.

Hi reefgirl and to TR. Sorry to hear about your tank problem. Did you ever contact JBJ?

I have a newer NanoCube 24 DX and luckily have never had a problem with it.

I emailed JBJ about a week ago and called them. They have not responded to my email and refused to replace the tank... not covered under 6 month warranty.
