have heard mixed reviews...but never used it. It seems like any small skimmer like that..water level plays a key role in keeping it adjusted.

I have a fission skimmer on mine 12 gal., I dont like it, the top part comes off very easily. ANd since it is in a 12 gallon I had to put it in the first compartment on the oppisite side of the tank from the water return because it made so many micro bubbles the water was foggy. There is about 100 percent less micro bubble in the compartment its in now, BUT still some. I am new to reefs so maybe someone has an idea how to stop these microbubbles.

I had one given to me and plan on dropping it into my 24 gal aquapod within the next 3 or 4 days, the tank is just starting it's cycling with LR. I'll let you know how it works under a heavy load.

Veen, I just saw the Fission Protein Skimmer in the local fish store as well. I'm curious as to what the performance review is on the product as well. Hopefully more people has had experience with them. It's got a nice catch phrase "It's not the size of the skimmer... its the motion of the ocean".

Hmmm fiddlin around with the fission skimmer, as said above they come apart not just a little easy but WAY to easy. I have yet to find a spot in the tank where the bugger will fit without hitting the cover. I can't lower the water level any farther or my return would be spraying water not returning it.

Now that's the kinda skimmer I want on my nano!!

Here is my point of view on HOB skimmers. HOB= hang on the back.
When it came time to put a skimmer on the 12g nano, I did lots of research. I had already bought a Prizm for my other tank and I knew they sucked. After all my research, I came to the conclusion that the AquaC Remora was "the best" HOB skimmer and most recommended and liked among hobbyist. So I purchased one and I've had it running a few months. I would rate it in the overall scheme of skimmers as "ok," but prolly "the best" when it comes to HOB. It works, but I can't adjust it to a level where I can skim max/wet in other words- skimming REALLY GOOD just isn't possible even with the collection cup pushed all the way down. Unlike the Prizm, the AquaC Remora is durable and it works for light skimming. It's pretty much the only option unless I drill the tank.

My point is that if the Remora is an "ok" skimmer, most of the other HOB skimmers are worthless. When buying a HOB skimmer- ignore how many gallons per hour the skimmer is rated for- it doesn't mean anything. If I ever drill the nano, I will put a EuroReef on it and nothing less

Bubbles- if you have bubbles, it could be something you added to the tank. I used epoxy a while back, and my skimmer was bubble city for a few days. Other skimmers are known for always having bubbles.

Oh and I just remembered that AquaC Remora is supposed to come out with a nano version, but personally I'd rather stick to the one I got. A small skimmer isn't going to skim as well imo.

What would happen if you get a nano and hook a Mag Drive to it? Awesome!!

save your money. the fission skimmer does nothing. there just is not enough contact time in a venturi skimmer of this size to do anything except possibly putting more micro bubbles into the tank. wait for the OCEANIC countercurrent
