Nano tank as QT

I was thinking on just getting a pre made 12 gallon Nano tank and use it for a QT tank. The reason is I want to QT everything and I cant seem to find a 10-20 gallon tank with a decent Hood and light. If I got the Nano cube I could just store the tank, put the sponge in my sump and use it as needed. Is this cost effective or is there better lighting for 10 gallons and Im just not looking hard enough?

wwest may be right there.

here is a 20" for cheap: http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewIt...roduct=ES53101

If it doesn't quite fit, you can always add those sliding feet to it.

I'd hate to see a beautiful nano go to waste as a QT tank. QT tanks are usually abused and tossed away in corners of the basement forgotten about untill they are needed. ( I know mine is.)

ive got to ask, & im not being rude here, but what is it with americans & live bacteria filled sponges that u guys feel the need to add to the QT! a QT can be sustained on just water changes alone, i personally age the water alittle in every water change by live coral rubble, but thats a personal preference! u add a sponge, u cant add it back in the display when your finnished, u will practicly have to nuke it first, it just seems a waste of time considering your higher than normal water changes in a QT situation is enought to dilute it! we generally stock slow, so one specimin is a general rule per period! anyways im rambling, it's just it makes no sence to me! powerhead, heater, shelter if its a fish, simple!
as for u using a nano. i dont see why not, u could even use a bucket if u really wanted to! but its all dependant on your equiptment! baseing everything around your equiptment in this hobby makes light work later! small tanks are great to have around anyways, u will love the freedom they bring when u need them most!

I dunno. I fill my QT with tank water and put a bit of LR in it to act as filtration (along with a powerhead with a sponge on it to collect debris.)

I guess everyone does things different.

10 gal tanks make it easier to figure out dosing for conducting treatments, either prophylactic, or when you are treating for a particular disease in a QT. That's just my thinking with them, easier to deal with.

I would NOT get the "Bio Cube Nano System 14" they OVER heat and the Filter they have is not that good. The mechanical sponge is all the way at the end of the filter and is the last thing to filter the water, and that to me dose not seem logical as the big stuff comes in firs. So Because of that you will have a low H20 flow and you will have the pump suck air time to time. I had to rig a canister filter and a skimmer.

Seahorsedreams will become famous soon enough
Veriann, I too like using a cycled sponge whenever I can..... I have had a QT tank going for over a year... three of them actually. Sometimes a huge water change in those tanks can't bring the ammonia down. The sponge gives you a little room... you throw it out after you are done.

Unless it is a coral I don't put lights over my QT tank.
