auto feeders

Wife and I are going on a 5 day vacation, (nervous about leaving the tank). Everything is setup up automatically of course, except for feeding. Does anyone know of a good auto feeder? All our livestock will eat pellet food even tho they prefer mysis shrimp. A "tank Sitter" is not an option. I'd like a feeder that feeds a measured amount once a day. I think the fish and inverts will be OK for 5 days then. Comments??

I don't have any recent experience with the current crop of auto feeders. I have tried them in the past and found them to reliably operate at their pre-set intervals. The problem comes in to play when the "food" absorbs moisture and doesn't "drop" properly. From that point on, until emptied and cleaned, it fails to perform as desired. I don't know if this issue of performance has been corrected. I tend to think, not.

I also think the lack of responses to your question from our diverse members suggests no one has found a reliable auto feeder over the long haul. A 5 day vacation is not long and perhaps any well built feeder would suffice for that long. It's usually longer periods of time that the problem exists.

Make a decision on a model, buy and use it for that time period. Then give us a report as to it's reliability. That's one function of a forum, to report good and bad performance of equipment. I know I for one would appreciate reading your report.

Thank you in advance,

Dick

Thank you Amphibious, I have one in mind that I'm going to try. (digital) I'll let you know how it works. We use a simple battery operated one on work days that seems to work great but you only get one feeding out of it and you have to measure the food just right or it dumps the whole hopper at once.

I've not used one at all. If we go away for a weekend I generally feed extra times a day for a couple of days before we leave and don't feed while we are gone. For longer times away from home I get a fish sitter. If you have good luck with a feeder I might go with one, seems like every time we go on vacation I end up with a problem of varying proportions.
