K.i.s.s.

Keep It Simple Stupid!

Just got a good reminder of this old adage yesterday. I decided to replumb my tank yestarday in order to incorporate a chiller, to simplify some convoluted plumbing, and to correct some mistakes i made when I first set the tank up.

I now have a single return pump powering everything (return, chiller, UV, Phosban reactors), and my drain has been split to gravity feed my skimmer. I went from 5 pumps in the sump to one. the irony of the situation is, after i removed all those pumps, the tank never got hot enough to trip the chiller . Ah well, I'm sure with summer coming, it will.

Anyway, just a good object lesson in why less is more sometimes.

Good call on less pumps. Gives you less equipment to worry about. That's how I run my entire system.

Yep, glad to be down to one, even if it is a monster.

The chiller did kick on for a little bit today. I'm guessing it was because in one stupid move last night I managed to soak my clip on fan and one 4" fan in my hood, leaving me with only 1 4" fan running today ;(

Good Job Phurst! Will it pull less electricity than all the pumps you had before or will you about break even? Just curious........

It uses considerably less power. The Mag 18 uses 145w (still a lot in my opinion) compareed to the 247w the other pumps were pulling combined.

Hopefully the chiller won't kick on too much and I'm glad the pump changes pull less wattage as every little bit helps.
