It was the only one I saw that showed the actual temp of the water seperate from the heater which I liked. They make 3 smaller models but they only come in 50, 75 and 100 watts.
The problem I am having is I believe my current heater must be sticking. I is set to 78 degrees, however the tank sometimes reaches 82 degrees in the middle of the day, then I have to unplug the heater and turn my fans on, but during the night the temp in the tank can drop to as low as 74 degrees. So I am looking for a dependable heater. Any sugestions?

I have a drop in that is like a 747 in my living room and then another inline that you can minimally hear.... so, I guess it kind of depends on the make/model.
My chiller is a drop in too and I think it is pretty loud. But not as loud as a 747. Of course my husband complains that I won't turn the fan in my car up past low or the exhaust fan in the kitchen on because I can't stand the sound. Thinking about it, I guess it is not as loud as the exhaust fan.
You could consider getting a temp controller, mine keeps my tank within a degree of the set point for each device although you can set the variance to be whatever you want. So for instance I have the chiller set to cool to 80 degrees and it comes on as soon as the temp hits 81 and turns off again when it is 80. I have the heater set to 79 degrees and it comes on as soon as the temp falls to 78.
Are you sure that your temp is not rising because of other devices (pumps, lights) throwing off heat? Is it always at the same time of day? For instance my chiller does not usually run during AC season until the lights are on unless the house has gotten especially hot for some reason.
Tony,
i wanted to welcome you back man, its been a while hope life and the family are treating you good.
and here is my 2 cents.
i will say, i used a titanium heater once (that broke 2 weeks after i got it)
they are cool for backing alot of watts into a small area, but i have to say i am not a fan of the temp probe unless you can find a way to securly mount it...

I have my temp probe woven into the grate in my sump. I also saw a cool idea about gluing various sizes of rigid tubing inside the sump to hold probes, heaters and other equipment securely.
Walrus, im sure we many hear would like to know why you feel it is "garbage".
simply stating it is garbage is not extremely helpful, let help educate everyone as to why you feel this way..
other than it being over powered for this tank, and that the temp probes can be an issue if not secured properly... what other problems do you have with it?
